Project number: 2025-1-LV01-KA121-ADU-000313954
Host organisation: Oloklirosi Single Member P.C. (ErasmusLearn Training Center), Heraklion, Crete
Participants: 13 Learners from DIJA’s “Latvian Pastry Traditions with European Touch” programme, accompanied by 2 staff members and 5 Greek learners
ErasmusLearn Training Center is a certified lifelong learning centre, accredited and licensed under the supervision of the competent authority of the Greek Ministry of Education. Crete was chosen as the destination in part due to its significant international recognition in the field of gastronomy — in October 2024, the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) awarded Crete the title of European Region of Gastronomy 2026.
For learners from the catering sector, this provided an exceptional opportunity to experience and study Greek pastry traditions first-hand, working and learning alongside Greek learners, trainees, and professional pastry chefs, while developing their vocational skills, English communication, and intercultural competence.
Working alongside Greek learners, trainees, and professional pastry chefs, DIJA participants explored traditional and modern Greek pastry techniques through visits to a traditional bakery and professional workshops, hands-on product preparation, and group work comparing Latvian and Greek confectionery traditions. English was used as the language of communication throughout, strengthening participants’ vocational skills, intercultural competence, and professional confidence.
